Fleas usually arrive with pets, but they can also turn up after moving into a home where the last tenants had a dog or cat. In Caroline Springs, calls peak in spring and summer, when warmer weather speeds up the flea life cycle. You might see fleas jumping on carpet or socks, notice pets scratching more, or find small bites around ankles.
Most of a flea problem is not on the pet. Eggs, larvae and pupae live in carpet, rugs, couches, pet bedding and shaded parts of the yard, and new fleas hatch for weeks. The crew we book treats carpets, rugs, under furniture, pet sleeping spots and outdoor areas where pets rest, using a spray that works on adults and stops young fleas from growing. A single treatment of the house often sorts it, but heavy cases may need a second round.
- Treatment of carpets, rugs and floor edges throughout the home
- Treatment of couches and pet sleeping spots where suitable
- Outdoor treatment of shaded areas, under decks and along fence lines
- A clear list of what to do before and after the visit
- Advice on timing the visit with your vet's flea treatment for pets
Before the visit, vacuum all floors, including under beds and couches, and empty the vacuum outside. Wash pet bedding in hot water. After the visit, keep vacuuming every day or two for a few weeks, as the vibration brings pupae out of hiding so they meet the treated surface. Keep pets off treated floors until the crew says they are dry. Pets should be treated by your vet in the same week.
